HOW IT WORKS

Life Purpose Assessment

Looking back over your answers to these questions, what patterns do you see? What might be some clues as to your life’s purpose?

What is your life’s purpose?

You’ve probably heard it many times…that your life has a purpose. And yes, we are all here for a reason. Do you know what that means specifically for you? If you’ve already come to some conclusions about that and are living out what you believe to be your life’s purpose, congratulations! But lots of people haven’t yet figured it out for themselves. Partly, that's because we believe our purpose must be some big, profound, inspiring achievement. When that doesn't happen in our lives we may think we failed. Jordan Grumet, MD, the author of The Purpose Code says, "Purpose isn't just about achieving something monumental; it's about finding meaning in the small, everyday moments that light you up." Here are some questions that serve as clues to your purpose:

What are you passionate about?

What inspires you, energizes you, or brings joy to your life?
If you were to have a conversation with someone you really enjoy being with, what would be so interesting that you would be able to talk about it for hours?
What is something you’ve done in your life that kept your attention so well that it prompted you to forget to eat, or you lost track of time?
What is it you had or did as a child that you don’t have now in your life, but you wish you did?

What natural talents and abilities do you have?

What ones do you recognize are there that you have developed?
What ones do you think you have but have not developed yet?
What kind of feedback have others given you about the gifts and talents they have observed in you?

What life experiences have you had?

What is your life story? What experiences did you have in your life, positive or negative, that left an indelible impression on you?If it was something positive, do you have a desire to provide that same experience for others? If it was something painful, do you desire to help others who are going through the same thing, or even to prevent it from happening to someone else?

What are your values?

What are things you have stood for in your life, or wished you had stood for them?
What issues, concerns, or causes in your community or in the broader world grab your heart?
What issues, concerns, or causes in your community or in the broader world that anger you? Do you have a desire to make things right?

What do you believe?

If you could be an influence in someone else’s life regarding what they believe, how would you like to influence them?
If you could help people to understand just three things you believe to be true, what would they be?

What are your dreams?

What would you love to do if time, money, and energy were not limited in any way?
What big dream have you pursued in your life, or have you always wanted to pursue?
If you could do anything to change the world, what would it be?

What is your inborn temperament?

Here are some clues about your temperament (based on the Myers Briggs Temperament Inventory):

What energizes you the most, interacting with the world outside of you of people, places and things, or interacting with the world inside you of thoughts and feelings and ideas?
Do you take in information in a more concrete, sequential way, focused on the reality of now, the world of today or "what is?" Or do you take in information in a more abstract, global way, focused on the possibilities of what could be and the world of tomorrow?
Do you tend to make decisions based on your head/logic or your heart/feelings?
Do you tend to live your life in a more structured or unstructured way?

When you come to the end of your life what legacy would you like to leave?

If you knew you only had three more years to live, what would you hope to do personally and professionally?  What would you do if you only had one more year to live?
If you could go back and do your life all over again, what would you do differently?
At the end of your life, what would you like to look back on and say, “I made a difference in…?”
What would you like people to say about you after you’re gone?
What would you like written on your gravestone?
